Interview with Business Coach Amy Applebaum
Corey: Hi! My name is Corey Quinn, and I am the founder of MyCoachMatch.com. We are a site that matches you up with great coaches based on personality fit. I am here with Amy Applebaum. She is a success coach. Welcome Amy.
Business Coach Amy: Thank you for having me.
Corey: Absolutely. So, why are you a coach?
Business Coach Amy: You know, I think we were all born to do something and I am the oldest of five kids, kind of bossy, problem solver. I think I was born to be a coach really.
Corey: You are born into it.
Business Coach Amy: I really feel that. I really feel that everybody has a thing they’re good at and this is like, it couldn’t be a better fit for me.
Corey: So as a coach, when should a potential client consider coming to visit with you and work with you?
Business Coach Amy: Well, me specifically, when they are ready to really make whatever it is they want to make happen happen. So, I really focus on business coaching at this point. The business coaching is not just about business as we all know, especially when I am working with women. There are often times calls the need for community, the need for confidence building, really learning how to move past fears, so for me, business coaching is about the step by step process of building your business on one parallel and on another parallel. It is really about self-development so that you could really get where you want to get to.
Corey: So, who is your ideal client?
Business Coach Amy: My ideal client is somebody who is – well, from a prototype or makeup of the individual standpoint, somebody who has a business and/or want one, has an incredible idea but does not know how to launch it or they are struggling as an entrepreneur and they really just, they have all the passion, all the dedication, but they need the step by step process and all the mental and emotional skills as well as business building skills to get there. They are ready to go. They are ready to commit time, energy, and make an investment.
Corey: So you are able to bring them both the business skills as well as the emotional skills to get their business up and running, get it the next level?
Business Coach Amy: Absolutely. I mean, I’ve been doing this for – I’m on my twelfth year now, and I started off as strictly a life coach, and I actually [Inaudible 02:19] to business because it turned out those were some of my most favorite clients because they were taking everything that they knew and putting that passion into something that created success for them, and actually Corey, I think that entrepreneurship is an analogy for life. When you can really learn how to be an entrepreneur, and put something into action, you can do it in every area of your life. So I think that’s why I grabbed a take towards business now.
Corey: I like that. That’s really cool. So in your 12 years now of coaching experience, in your opinion, how important is a match between a coach and a client?
Business Coach Amy: Critical. I absolutely love what you are doing because it is not just critical, it’s beyond critical, if there’s a word past critical. There is no success if you don’t have the right relationship with your coach. Not just liking them, trust, respect, because they should be able to push you past where you want to go, and sometimes, that’s going to piss you off. But you trust them so much that you will do what they tell you to do, not without questioning, but you trust that you will get there because you are with this person. It’s just you can’t – it’s the only way.
Corey: Could you share a success story with me please?
Business Coach Amy: I’d love to share a success story with you. There are so many. I want to use one in particular because I think that she is a perfect example of an entrepreneur. Even though not on first glance, people don’t always think that. She is a singer/songwriter. Her name is Jes Hudak. You may know her because she is first seen on the music scene right now. She was just on Bravo’s new show, Platinum Hit. She placed second. Ohh!! It was like this close to being first, and her career is taking off. But when she came to me, she was miserable, depressed, sitting on the couch watching people’s work. That’s the way she likes to describe it. She knew she was an incredible talent and that’s often the case with entrepreneurs. They know they are good at something, whatever their expertise is, but she didn’t know how to turn that into a career or a business, and singer/songwriters are technicians in the same way that somebody who is good at PR or they are a great writer, or whatever it is they are good at, that does not mean that they know how to turn that into a business. And so, what we did was we spent a lot of time building her business starting from the vision, really turning her into a brand. Who am I? Who is my target demographic? You know, who am I trying to reach out to and move, touch and inspire with my music? And then, how do I actually go through the step by step process of building myself as a business? She had none of those skills. So, we went through all of that, all the way to elevating her platform, which means getting a broader reach through year of services or whatever it is you are offering for her with music. You know, she is doing so well and she is making money. So she is making a living from the thing that she is incredibly passionate about. So I think she is a really good example.
Corey: That’s wonderful. Thank you so much Amy for spending some time with us today.
Business Coach Amy: Thank you so much for having me. Thank you so much Corey. I love what you are doing.
Corey: Thank you so much.
